Introduction:

The southern Swedish province of Smaland shows off some 5000 lakes nestled between ancient woodland forests and is famous for large elk, wooden churches and crystal glass. The most beautiful season to visit this region is during midsummer as the magical evening twilights seem to linger all evening. The Swedes definitely know how celebrate this time, as their midsummer solstice festival is the most popular holiday in Sweden.

The Music And Friends Festival is centered around the city of Växjö which is the native homeland of composers such as Otto Lindbald and Karl-Birger Blomdahl. However during your stay you will not be limited to this area alone. Side trips can be made to Copenhagen and Stockholm and don't forget to include a cruise around the numerous beautiful islands in the Smaland region. All in all Cantate Smaland provides a wonderful way to envelope yourself in the Swedish way of life and their traditions, where music song and dance is an integral part of life.

Concert Halls & Venues:

The musical event begins with a friendship concert of several foreign choirs and a Swedish guest choir in Växjö or in the nearby surrounds. This is followed by the midsummer fertility festival held in Pukeberg in the concert hall of a glass factory. There will be a chance for song and merriment and of course in the Swedish tradition dancing around the midsummer tree.

Farewell Concert and Dinner:

The evening concert takes place in the modern concert hall of Växjö and is followed by the final farewell-dinner in the foyer of the concert hall with more singing , dancing and music - truly an evening to remember.
